A biotope is a collection of fish from one small part, of a very specific region or river system where those fish and only those fish are found.

And not just fish IMO, a true biotope should be a replication of a specific environment, with the fish, decor, plants, stocking levels, water conditions, light levels etc etc all being as true-to-nature as possible.

So then would an oscar fish and a silver Arowana be in the same biotype since they are both from SA?

Well IMO I like to mix fish from all over and just go crazy with what looks right to me as long as they can be paired together.

But I also plan to setup a 180 or 210 in the living room of my first house that will be a strict amazon theme. Angles, Rams, Corys, tetras, and some various other things I don't have planned yet lol. Should come out stunning but it's 4+ yrs down the road so who knows what will come of my plans
