So I am getting a 3 inch red tail catfish

Honestly these fish get huge. But people just love to exaggerate the size. Like a guy at my fish store was trying to tell me that red tails get 4.5 foot and they get 70 pounds in aquariums. What the heck?!? You do not need a 25x20 foot tank. A 12x5 should last a LOOONNNGGG time.

Other then the guy above with the 40 foot tank or whatever who has even attempted AT LEAST a 12 foot tank for their RTC???

Just my 2 cents.

And i agree that they should be special import only.

There's three at the pittsburgh aquarium that are easily 5 feet long. Easily. They love to cruise around the tank and are always really active. Now this is taking into consideration that they're at least 15 years old but...

As mentioned elsewhere, I am personally only aware of two assured cases (there are certainly more). Both 46". Arapaimag's and TLkm's. Must be 50+ lbs easy because 5' RTC in the wild is 100+ lbs on average and 6' are 180+ lbs. Those two are private owners. Their homes are 52,000 gal and 13,000 gal, respectively.

I wish we had more data points from Public Aquaria and of more solid kind, i.e., with evidence.
