So he says the tank has a 12" depth and you say he can keep the O's but he needs to nix the clown loaches. I think my head just exploaded...
 same here

I didnt wanna say that lol but it is a lot more room than most poor oscars get:nilly:

i don't see a problem.. all but the oscars are very slow growing fish, so there is plenty of time go get another larger tank. And the Ocsars will be fine in an 85 gallon tank for a very long time.

nice tank.. little bit o TLC and it'll be beatiful!! congrats.

The dimensions are 72x12x21.

Hello! Congrats on the new tank!

I hate to make it even smaller, but 72x12x21 is 78 gallons. I assume those are exterior dimensions and it has 3/8" glass...making it 70 gallons.

Either way, it's a nice looking tank! Don't worry about it...fill that bad boy up!

Congrats :)

^^ I agree. Too shallow for oscars. A school of clown loaches would be happy in it for 5 years, if you bought them as juvies.

If you can't keep an Oscar in a 55. Main reason being that being 12 inches deep the Oscar will out grow that dimension. So... This tank only being 12 inches deep... No Oscars.

Took the words out of my mouth. In this case the footprint is more important than how many gallons it is. The reason why people recommend 75 gallon minimum is because of the footprint being 18 inches wide. Don't get me wrong, the more gallons and especially the more filtration the better, but the Oscar won't be able to turn around in a tank 12 inches wide.

That would imo make a very nice planted tank w/ clown loaches. you could easily do angels or discus imo or a big school of tetras. I agree 12" is the depth of "largest smallest tank" not the footprint for "monsters"

It's 12 inches across, 21 deep
