Very nice. How have you found the laps growth rate compared to other bichirs?

All three laps have been slower than my endli but not as slow as my weeksii. When I got my ansorgii it was smaller by at least two inches and it caught up to and outgrew the Faranah lap in a few months time. And ansorgii are pretty much know as super slow growers. So I really cant say what that proves on growth rates. I wouldn't place them as slow but more an even paced, moderate growth rate.

So essentially if you have 3-4 inch laps and 10-12 inch endlis it will be a long time before you can put them in the same tank lol. Hopefully their growth rate is faster than senegals. Also how active are yours? Are they logs? How do they compare regarding tank activity compared to other polys?

Growth rate depends on the fish itself too, in my experience any poly that eat like a pig grows fast.
I had 4 nigerian lap before and 1 out of 4 only eats two pieces of tilapia while the other three eats like pig and they grew the same rate as my endlis, but at some point they eat less than the endlies, so the endlis had more grith than the laps even then were the same lenght.

Nicely put Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 , it really depends on how the fish eats as to growth rate. My laps all seem to be dainty eaters so growth is moderate. As to activity level, each is different with the Nigerian and Faranah being more active and the Koliba a bit shy and hides more

They are cb laps, hard to tell if nigerian lap or koliba, but judging by the tail marking its a koliba imo.

Is it better if they turn out to be koliba or nigerian? Which do you guys prefer? Its not legal to import polys here so I assumed captive bred. One just had a bit of damage to its tail when I got them. I kinda like the patterning of koliba's so woundn't mind if they turn out to be kolibas. Do all lap types get the same size?
