So... I've got these four giants!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey,
It's not reall working out.
Either the tank is too small or dither fishes are missing.
Every time I enter the room all silverdollars start darting which results in hitting pieces of wood and causing small wounds.

I don't really know what to do.
Try to add dither fishes or sell the group of 14 silverdollars because maybe 55cm depths just aren't enough!
I just can't watch them hurting themselves multiple times a day.

Spend more time in front of the tank they'll come out eventually. If not get some cichlids that aren't really aggressive something like an oscar will do to show them that you aren't a threat. You need something that swims around whether your in the room or not.

Hey,
So basically the key is to find a fitting dither fish?
An Oscar would be a little too much, I already got 2 filters on this tank but since oscars are producing a massive amount of waste I'd have to upgrade to filtration.

I checked out some tanks fron people keeping them successfully they have the following in common:
They are bright, with almost no decorations, kind of heavily stocked with active species beside the silver dollars!

I don't have any characins in mind that would fit as dither fish.
But maybe rainbowfish could be an option?
My favorite would be Melanotaenia lacustris.

Rainbows are beautiful :D

I have quite a bit of decor and no issues with frenetic behavior. I also have a large number of other species. I hope you find a mix that works for you

Ive always had a lot of dw even when I had SD. I had no issues. And it doesn't have to be an oscar I was just saying something that isn't really aggro and isn't afraid of you, so they don't have to worry about being scared of the fish as well as learn they don't have to be afraid of you.

Could try a odoe. Thats my open water swimmer along with a gold wolf, but he's a d*ck head to anyone who allows it except for my jag cat lol.
