do like i do. i keep frontosas and other tanganyikin cichlids . i could easily say frontosas or tangs, but i like to have fun. i'll tell them "various African Rift lake cichlids from lake tanganyika alone with indonesian clown loaches. "

Just spout off the scientific names, or better yet, make them up and watch how many say "Wow, thats cool" and then walk off with puzzled looks.
I always ask them.."what type do you like.". ...when they answer i say "yes i have those too" {usually i do!}

Hahana never been asked either, most of my mates think when you say fish you must mean goldfish. Then I just explain semi-agressive tropical community and they shut up lol
Most of the time I avoid the subject. Or go, I have fish, they are this big. I actually got sick and tired of explaining every fish in detail to half the factory so I got some photos and put them on the message board, now I refer people to the photos. One guy I work with asks all the time, if I say a name of a fish that he doesn't know he gets me to write then name down a will actually research the fish at the library. Doesn't come back acting smart either, just wants to understand what I'm talking about, he's great a real rare non-hobbiest, loves my Oscars as well.
A lady where I work found out that I like fish and started ranting on about how much of a tyrant her male guppy is, always picking on her female. I said to get a couple more females and he wont seem so bad anymore. She told me if I drop him in my tank he will probably kill my fish
. I got her to come round and pick a fish that she wants to fight the guppy with, she soon changed her mind.

Trop fish answer doesnt work cause they always go "Oh yea what kind". Or you get the Oscar question so I have figured it out I say "I have alot of central and south american fish". If they persist then they are gonna get me to talking about my fish and I might not stop.
