I have 1 male about 6" now, hes almost two years old, they grow very slowly he would not tolerate anything of his size and nipped fins on my flowerhorn and festae who were larger. They are very skittish with people and horrible with tankmates when the lights are off. They do not have the dovii free swimming and bullying mentality. They only look like small dovii. he never leaves the direct area of his hide and bolts at the first noise.

my female flowerhorn was roughly the same size (3") and kicked my grammodes ass. lol. I agree though. i was excited about the idea of having a mini dovii since i cant house a real dovii. so of course i got one. I agree with loshmitchell . Thats pretty much how my experience has been so far.. they are not very interactive. I was really hoping for a male though because they can look really nice. :p

If your looking for the dovii extremely interactive mentality your going to be disappointed. They look like a little dovii & that's about it. So if your purely going for the dovii look and want something different from other people it fits the bill.

They're cool in their own right. They are some nasty little suckers and very skilled at fighting from the ones I've seen (attacks eyes, gills, sensitive areas and have good defense). Some can be skittish, but I've also seen others bang the tank. Growth rate is killer though only .25" a month at best so you have to be patient or buy one already 6" long. I looked at getting some, but decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze with the growth rate.

They do grow very slow, but can hold there own. I have 3 in my 400 gal, all are around the 3-4" mark, they share the tank with several larger fish. They hold there own and dont seek out punishment on the larger fish. So for that reason, I enjoy them and their slow growth rate.

I sold my female about 3 months ago, painfully slow grower, she murdered off the other 3 I bought her with, and a Senegal bichir I had to keep her with during a power outage.

She grew from 1" to about 4" in about 8-9 months.

A gramode in my opinion is meaner than a dovii. thats hard to say but i cant deny the truth.. also gramodes always seem to hide when they are small and do not grow very fast compared to a dovii
