Cool fish in it's own right, but bottom line theres no substitute for a dovii. 10" your just wasting a 2.5-3yr grammodes against a 9-10month old dovii especially with a dominant one. Even a passive one is going to get fed up and eventually rip it to shreds.

Going to step on some umbee toes with this one. I say dovii's mature faster and can hold their own with much larger tankmates before an umbee from my experience. A dominant male dovii is king of the cichlids period IMO. Their 95% of the time #1 on everyones nasty cichlid list for a reason. This is based on dominant males of all species not a passive vs aggressive etc etc
In one of Mel's videos he explained that the difference between the two is that in a large tank a male umbee can be introduced and live somewhat peacefully. While a male dovii will destroy everything and the fish he can't destroy it will wait till it puts on more size then take it on again

Well said, grammodes are agressive, but cannot be compared to a 22" male dovii.
