So whats up with the hype?

Whats not to like about them? The first time I saw a tiger (it was a thinbar), I knew I would have a tank full of them 1 day:drool:. I agree when they r all black and brown they r not that attractive to look at. But a fully stable tiger?:WHOA: They're beautiful...Almost look like a saltwater fish. When people come to my house and c my tank full of tigers they think that it's a saltwater tank.

I love their personality too...All my tigers know who I am when I go by the tank...My girlfriend tried to go to the tank and she got no reaction from them...But when I go even close to the tank, they all come out and show off their vibrant colors, and they look like they're saying hello to me. When I walk in the house after a hard days work(mostly being on mfk)lol, they greet me just like a dog just no sound(my tank is right in the living room as soon as u walk into the house) And all of mine are still young and small, ranging from 2.5"-5.5" Cant wait til they get bigger:headbang2
Even at that size, it is very exciting to watch them eat...When I only had 1 tiger I would watch him as he eye balled the food(u can literally c their eye balls moving around stalking food) b4 sneaking up on it and snapping it up. Now since I have 7 tigers they don't have time to do all that sneaking around..They just strike as soon as the food hits the water.

It's a personal preference like everyone else said, but if u had 1 u would not have started this thread..:naughty:

^They actually seem to do better in groups, since it spreads out the aggression. I have 11 Dats of various sizes in my tank (IT, AT, NGT) and they do great together!

how many gallons is your tank?

i have a 125 thats well stocked but i do weekly water changes. whats the average amount to go into an un-stocked 125?

Really depends on the size of the dats and what type of filtration you use. I have around 64+ in a 180g and a 120g. They range in size from 4-18" and they have other tankmates. As long as you have enough filtration you can add a lot of dats to a 125g. Also more dats = less aggression and more swimming.

i wanna get a couple now.. but the question becomes.. how are they in "groups". is there a minimum for a group?

OOOOhh so now u want some huh...:D

They do great in groups..I would get like 5-7 for a 125g tank...But are u planning on keeping other fish wit them? If so I would do like 5, with some other tankmates.

U will be a tiger addict soon..:naughty:

Datnoids are overrated IMO..really...just a simple brown and black...I'd get a tiger barbs from LFS at $ 1.50 each..

Maybe that's why I don't have any tiger barbs and have 15 datnoides and counting ;)

if you have seen a 12inch+ ST you will know whats its all about :D

Definitely agree with this. Anything over 10" is just :WHOA::WHOA::WHOA:

Same thing applies to IT, NGT, NTT(my favorite), and AT.

Its all about personality. The dog comparison definitely holds true. I don't think I'll ever stop keeping datnoids.
