Softshell Turtle with "rotting" shell?? Experts!!! Need help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats always a good idea to hide submersible heaters from turtles. or go to hardware store get som plexi glass tubes and cut to fit the corner of your tank and silicone it in...

I also sujest that you get products like stress coat and general topic for fishes. Those can realy make the diference when dealing whit shell damage on softies. Hope this helps:)

you're gonna enjoy it, be prepared in the future, they get huge!

I do not believe in heat burns in the same place in 2 turtles.

Looks like a fungus or an infected wound..You can be sure that the fish will pick on it and will prevent it from healing.

Try a little salt in the water and give them a "sun-light" lamp with a basking spot.

I was just thinking about that caro Miguel;). Svang you can also aplly salt directly on the injuries. during that you hold the turtle out of the water for about 10 to 20 minutes. Repeat several times a day and you´l see how the injuries heal. :)

I'm getting really worried guys, it gotten worse. I got the med and stress coat, drying them first thing when i get home for at least an hour, will increase drying/sun basking time. I'll add salt to the tank, how much though because when I do my reg 20% water change I add salt.

I'll try applying directly to infected areas tonight. Will it sting the crap out of them??

Did you get the Zoo Med Sulpher dip stuff?
I'm telling you; that stuff works. It will clear up the same things that salt does only faster.;)

salt works if you dont have sulfa available.... put it in a seperate tank and if it is fungus you will want to add some salt to the main tank as well to keeo it from spreading...
