we used silicone and contrary to other post so far it has held and we have had no problems. the tank is 5x2x2 we used 3/8" (10mm) glass. we used 2.5" deck screws every 2" the plywood is 3/4" G1S(next time we will use G2S do to the fact that i hate sanding...lol) then we did 6 coats of zavlar(liquid rubber) uhm any other questions feel free to ask. for basically never picking up a tool before im pretty pleased how it turned out.

scratch all that silicone talk it didnt hold as well for the second tank at all:irked: so now we are trying paintable caulking over that and then zavlaring over that

Liquid Rubber and silicone do not get along. I was able to find 1 build where they got a seal that lasted and the builder no longer has the tank so long term who knows. I did all kinds of testing with these materials and never got a good bond. Pond Coat/Liquid Rubber/Zavlar will not even cure when painted over silicone and silicone has a very weak bond over liquid rubber. I got a seal on my build by adding a strip of fiberglass resin to my tank around the viewing window. The silicone sealed in the window and bonded very well to the fiberglass resin. Once that cured, I applied liquid rubber over the fiberglass resin up to the silicone that sealed the window. I got a good seal doing that. Tank looks sharp by the way, keep after it.

You might be able to use zavlar to seal the window in an acrylic tank but it doesn't bond to glass at all.

we tested some zavlar on glass and it seemed to hold pretty good. and hoping it does or else i think we will have to rip apart both tanks and do the epoxy i guess:confused:

it looks great!! i am working on my tank now using zavlar i called the tech at liquid rubber he suggested buytle rubber caulk then paint the zavlar over the caulk dunno if it will work but he suggested it? is your front piece of plywood a solid piece then cut out or did you make it out of 4 strips? sorry i could probably tell if i was on a computer and not my phone
