house64 and i sold sold some of our beani to don conkel (4 fish in total). we believe right now he is the best person with the expertise and space (how can you go wrong with acres and acres of land with ponds etc.) to bring this fish back into the hobby.
when we first got beani we had this vision to try and be the people to breed them and bring them back into the hobby. fast forward a few months later we started to realize the enormity of that task

also, reality checks came along the way with work commitments and just the hectic pace of life in general. hence we made the choice to keep some of our beani, but to sell the 'extras' (are there really extra beani lying around??

lol) to don, who we have bought fish from a few times (do NOT make this a thread about don conkel... if you have opinions on him, keep them to yourself. my honest TWO cent opinion of him based of my own experience is he's an awesome person to deal with and all the BS about him having diseased fish or promoting hybrids is just that), spoken to in person, and honestly believe has the space, time, dedication and expertise to raise these little guys into true monsters and hopefully breed them in the future.
furthermore, there are other excellent hobbyists doing their part to bring the beani back into the hobby; joefatfish, ruck fules amongst others, so we felt safe in the knowledge that efforts to bring the fish back were underway and were not contained just in one or two people.
so if you contacted me in the past about getting these fish, hopefully you understand why i made the choice to sell to a commercial breeder. it has nothing to do with you or your abilities to breed fish. we wanted to send our fish to someone who can make it available to the wider hobby.
i'm glad you guys like these fish. they are pretty neat. they are finicky at times but you just need to know what to do with them. hopefully some day they will be as common again as red devils or convicts...
