Could you keep them in a FOWLR setup if in full marine?

good guestion... what is that setup..love to know all about it..

Can they live in normal fresh water?? as I have one I bought yesterday and put it into my freshwater tank, now I wasn't told it needed salt, but had an idea from looking at them on here that it does! This morning it is not looking to healthy at all! :(

Will adding the salt now bring it back to life or have I done a bad thing!?

Dan

Dan they like to be in schooling groups so two at least would be better.. and yes they can live in freshwater for a long while with no problems but as they grow you should slowly change over to brackish..mine are doing fine health wise and i am not completly brackish yet.. being in brackish gives them longer healthier life.. you did not say how big yours is..also whether he was in brackish at the LFS and maybe you did not know it...I hope he is doing better ..but according to what you said so far i see no error on your part except i do not know what size tank, how big he is and what tank mates he has..all those things give clues.. did you quarenteen him before you added him to your tank.. because it is a risk if he is sick everyone else will get sick too..also it could just be stress until he gets use to the tank.. hope he better..

They look in perfect perfect health...you are a great fishkeeper.

the tank is a 65l, and he was about 2" - 3" in size so only small! It lives with 4 angel fish, 2 south african butterfly fish, a 7.5" ornate bircher and a plec.

Was in the lfs with all the other freshwater fish and not the brackish/marine fish as i would have steered clear. Looked perfectly happy and very active in the shop and the same in my tank last night, ate bloodworm and catfish pellets last night as was very active.

This morning hewas not looking good, stuck in my plant facing up, still breathing but lifeless! :( Still thesame now! Quite upset as he is a loverly looking fish and hate it when they die due to my possile error! :(

I am so sorry but it is not your error.. i cannot see anything you did wrong..he seems to be just too small to take the stress of moving to a new tank.. fish die of stress more then anything else..if he should pass the LFS should replace him..next time get two but keep in mind if u do u will need to get larger tank later..and try to get them a little larger.. he sounds really small for all that fish go through..but i am almost certain this has nothing to do with you or anything you did wrong..they are usually pretty hardy fish.

He seemed pretty happy when he got in the tank, zooming around like he was in the shop, ate really well as that was what I was worried about most but wolfed down pellets and frozen bloodworm.

I would have bought 2 if they had more than this one in the shop, but he was the last. was careful on the way home, let him slowly alcimatise to the tank for about 2 hours, letting in water from my tank into the bag. The angels seemed quite intrested in him in the bag but no one bothered him in thank, even the bircher that will eat anything smaller than 2" in one bite lol.

Well sadly he stopped moving his gills this evening, was in my net kept at the top so the bircher didn't lunch on him. Quite sad really as I had been looking for some for ages and was hoping to grow him up to move in to my bigger tank in a few months. I just hope he wasn't poorly and has infected the rest of my tank.

By the way liz, yours look awesome!! :)
