Some dog choice ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I'm a little worried if the ACD would snap or not at the horses, but the ranch is actually my gf's parents and they have a collie and lab/Aussie shep mix which don't bother the horses. I read that ACD are solitary which brings up the concern with the other dogs. My apartment is 5 mins from the ranch which is where I'll be spending a lot of time helping out. Idk what to get yet but I have plenty of time to figure it out and make the best decision (until my Eskimo dies). My collie/lab will need another companion because all she knows is being with him and cries when he isn't around. I would hate for her to go into depression. thanks everyone for the input I appreciate it!

a well trained ACD will not go after and snap at any animals, my Female along with all of my families heelers (ACDs) can walk threw a field of cattle with out as much as looking at them unless we tell them what to do.

As for them being solitary...the trick is socialization from a young age to all types of animals, people and dogs.

My family has bred raised and trained many of working ACDs they are amazing dogs!...they just take a firm hand and LOTS of exercise witch..seems you would have covered. ( a tired ACD pup is a well behaved ACD)

If you want a devoted dog who is extremely smart I would go with an ACD..mine has not left my side in 15 years.

Aussie would be my second choice for many of the same reasons stated above.

Check out the cane corso. There great dogs. But make sure you do your research! A lot of breeders don't know what there doing and breed poor quality dogs. They should be no more than 120-130lbs max.

Cane corso's are cool id love to have one but ive not got the space , but you cant beat a shar pei in my eyes best dog breed ever imo :D

From what I have read a black and tan coonhound is very mellow indoors. Can be trained to hunt lions, cougars, bears, deer, coon, mink, rabbit, coyote or just about anything. Loyal companion animal with a pack mentality-means it gets along well with other dogs. Exceptional stamina-you will never outrun a coonhound. AND it will give you a purpose to your run-trying to keep up with it when it's hot on a trail haha.
