I don't think its from Carbon honestly, its usually poor water quality or just feeding them crap like feeder fishes most of the time or just 1 specific food.
I definitely never buy feeder fish. They rarely... and I mean rarely (once, so far, since February) get a few smaller fish, due to a spawn... but not any actual feeders.

Don't know about the water quality... tests well, I do 50% water changes most every week (no longer than 10 days... did that twice this year). Clean the FX5 monthly. Maybe I need to clean the FX5 bi-weekly? That's all I can think of, honestly.

I honestly didn't think the fish looked that bad. They certainly eat like pigs... hmm... maybe I need to try to figure out what is going on with the tank???

I am not sure, when I bought my Oscar at 4 inches,he already had that issue it seems, which only helped out a little of giving him minerals and vitamins. The only thing I can get my oscar to eat is krill, bloodworms, waxworms, red wigglers, earthworms.Wont eat pellets, tried the starving thing, still didn't matter.I use to give rosie fishes or minnows, but I barely buy them now.

It's all good, man. I listed what I'm feeding just above. Your argentae are very nice indeed! I don't take any comments as bashing. I always appreciate knowing what different people are doing with their fish, and what has worked with them, so surely, I'm open to that. But for what its worth, to anyone who chooses to comment, I'm just sharing pics of my fish, and not trying to compete with anyone. If you have a criticism and some advice to go with it, I accept that. I've been doing this for a long time... but clearly, as evidenced by the mixed reaction here... I am far, far from perfect. I feel this hobby keeps you in a constant state of learning, really... so feel free to offer up whatever you please. Thanks.

All good. Nice collection. Feel free to PM me anytime as well, I always enjoy talking fish, especially with someone similarly (good ;)) taste in the type of fish they keep. :)

You have some very nice fish indeed and that Argentea above looks photoshoped to me.

I hope you're joking. My fish are NOT "photoshoped" in any way. They literally go straight from my iPhone camera album to my photobucket upload app and then the image URL is copy and pasted. I don't even use a computer to post on MFK 99% of the time--it's all iPhone (including this post).

My fish have only gotten one specific food from the day I first got them at 2". ;)

I'm sure they're pellets, but I have gotten my Oscar from a petco, where he was brought in by someone, who couldn't care for him anymore, was never fed pellets, since I tried to do.That is why I try to do a variety of food, that has minerals, vitamins, protein, ect

I really appreciate the compliment... thanks! I do think aclockworkorange has very nice argentae... they are definitely brighter than mine... I certainly applaud his efforts on such great looking fish. That's my take on it, at any rate.

I think I should pick up the maintenance of my FX5. As I sit here and think about it, I do monthly maintenance on it... but laziness at times on my part does allow that to fluctuate between 4 to 6 weeks at time... so not completely a month faithfully. That could be where my flaw is here. I will be more strict on the maintenance of that filter, and see if the results improve. Glad I posted here... lets me know I certainly have to do a little more work. I want to make sure my guys are as healthy as possible!

Mine is picky honestly, that is why I am able to have smaller cichlids with him, cause he doesn't find them to be a threat at all or basically doesn't see them as food.
