Some people have too much money on their hands

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ed, I'm glad you are enjoying this as much as I

tony & not done yet, you are awesome. It is true, and i do have a nice toy to work with. I only want a DSLR because it is driving me batty not being able to focus myself! lol. though, the nikon has proven itself to be pretty good at reding my mind
thank you.

erin,
I too fall under that trap. I really wanted to get the 8900/9800? whatever the 900$ one was, but i couldn't justify it, or allow it money-wise., especially with christmas. I wouldn't have been able to get this one, except I did a job for sully that paid well :). However, I am that way with my paints. I paint with Old Holland Oils exclusively. and I have a G5 - though not a dual - (which earns its keep much better than any PC). But I don't own a car, so perhaps it all evens out,

Have you considered buying used equipment? Great way to stretch the dollar and get more equipment out of it.

Some so called "obsolete" equipment can still produce images that will blow most competition away. The old Canon EOS D60 digital SLR for example. I believe that retails for around US$550 used these days. Add a used Tamron 90 mm F2.8 Macro and you have one SHARP macro setup.

Cheers,

thanks, lisa

true.. and with ebay and such i may get a change to get my hands on one...

That was how I got my SLR and some fantastic lenses.. though that was a yard sale, and somehow I don't think i'll beat that price

but it may mean i'll have a dslr sooner.. :)

Well, I am by no means rich, but I do have family who cares about me a great deal. Also, I am an only child. My dad lives alone and asked what I wanted for Christmas, and he actually got me the Nikon D70. :D I am by no means a pro, semi-pro, or anything associated with the word pro. I would like to become decent eventually.

I've actually been looking for a digital camera for awhile now. I first started looking into it a couple of years ago, but didn't see anything that I felt comfortable with somewhere down the line. I've been using my brother's camera all these years, from his Fuji Finepix and Canon S410 to my old roommate's Sony Mavica (pictures went on floppies). I've even gone out and bought a Sony DSC-T1 and used that for awhile. Nice camera, but I wanted to use it for fish and nature photography, which it wasn't optimized for (even for indoors, it has problems with illuminating a subject across the room...).

Finally, saw the Nikon D70 and read the reviews on it and tested one. Needless to say, I fell in love with it, but at the time, the price was out of my range. Since then, I began tracking it's price on a monthly basis and when it came into my budget, I picked it up (thank Nikon for their rebates). I've owned the camera for about two months now and have loved every second of it.

What really got me to look into buying a digital camera for myself in the beginning was the following line: "think of how much learning you are missing out on, and how many pictures you are not taking by waiting and deliberating."

you want way too much money?

person comes into the store today with a canon 1D mkII (yes the $4500 one). Then asks me HOW TO USE IT.

They bought it because they wanted to look like a pro......

Lisa,
It looks like you are having too much fun with those customers. I can't believe this guy. You should have gave him your D-Rebel and ask him for his MKII. It wouldn't make any difference to him since he probably can't shot with either one
