I love your collection...the barbs are awesome
actually everything is awesome!

I like the bushy overgrown planted tank :)

I would love a planted tank, but I cant even keep my plants alive.

I would love a planted tank, but I cant even keep my plants alive.

what is your tank size, lighting, etc.

growing live plants is quite easy, as long as you follow a few basic guidelines:

1. add lots of plants. more the better. this prevents over fertilizing and algae growth as a result.

2. even with lots of plants, start with 1/4 to 1/2 the recommended dose of liquid fertilizer each week, increasing dose as your plants grow and grow.

3. have decent lighting, but don't worry about the watts per gallon stuff too much. the spectrum and quality of the bulbs is more important than striving to reach a certain minimum watts per gallon rule.

my 30 gallon planted has 36 watts of light on it and the plants grow fine, for example.

4, make sure nothing is eating your plants, including snails.

Hope this helps you out a bit.

Thanks for all the info!

Right now I don't have an empty tank to go with....I have quite a few FH's in 55's. When I pick out a compatible pair and free up a tank I would like to do a planted.
I will look for more advice from you in time :)

thanks! actually, I only have one red severum.

some pics look slightly different depending on whether or not I have the main lights on in the room, or with all the lights off.

also, the camera setting in aquarium mode takes a slightly different looking picture than say the digital macro mode with no flash.

but its all the same fish. :)

also severums do the color change depending on their mood:grinno: your tanks look so crystal clear..beautiful room.... and gorgeous fish!;)
