The big fish have survived many winters in different sized ponds over the years. As long as the pond doesn't completely freeze, and there is a hole in the ice for gases to escape they are fine.

koi are weird 
there is this place up at south west rocks in australia, they have a HUGE koi farm! it's pretty cool .

We bought a new filter and pump a couple of weekends ago, and are now doing 4800 gph. I will post pics when I get a chance.
