I'd definitely recommend going with flies. You can use a spinning rod no doubt, but I can't imagine many situations in which a spinning rod would be more efficient than a light fly rod. I've caught many wild Brookies bow casting small dries on streams no more than 4' across and down to less than 12 inches across with tree cover so thick you have to crawl on the stream bottom. It's challenging, yes, but I can't imagine doing that with a spinning rod very easily.
