Since Chris resides in the state I'm sure he can accurately answer that. But you will need a class 1 license. You can visit the florida fish and wildlife website for more info.

OH And Rob, a tiger fish is better than a copperhead...

I agree. :) I don't care to have TWO different types of specialized needs pets!

Do either of you have any guidance for me on how to go about getting a permit? I'm originally from Florida but I'm facing a situation where I might not be able to move back after the Army because of my love of 'banned' animals (tigerfish). I've read the law that specifically states that you can get permits, but there's no real guidance on how to go about doing so. I've not had much luck with google, either; I think that I might not know what to look for if that makes any sense.

Good luck trying to get a permit. They don't post how to get one because they do not want any one to get one. Even zoos and museums cannot get animals on the banned list. I suppose if you made a large donation to the FWC and rubbed elbows with the right people it would be possible but otherwise forget about it.

That's been my impression, too. :/

I was hoping you guys knew something I didn't.

Oh shoot. I didnt understand your question correctly. You want to get a tiger fish into florida... get this...its way easier to get a real tiger in florida than you tiger fish. Useless laws...lol

Haha. Guess I'm going to end up in St. Mary's after all, then. :lol2:

if u wanna learn more I would join reptile forums UK. they have a lot of experienced DWA keepers. I read on there that some recommend gaboon vipers, which I would like to get after I leave school.

St. Mary's GA? I know of a handful of venomous keepers there and one of them is a good friend of mine who works at the Jax zoo. In GA there is no permit to keep native venomous needed but corn snakes and other native non-venomous are illegal. The laws there seem so backwards to me...

Yeah, the location seems ideal for finding work thanks to the access to the several different metropolitan areas and I won't be a criminal for having pet tigerfish. I want to go back to Jax but I'm not willing to risk the trouble for having my pets.
