Georgia, it rarely gets that cold here but might get too cold for him. Nearest aquarium is 2-3 hours Atlanta or Charelston.

why don't you post a Pacu ad on here for him.. someone just might have a big tank for him that lives near you..he may adapt in the pond and may be able to handle some cold nights etc since the temp of water still stays relatively warm..but the warmer water would only be on the top... how deep is the pond??? How big is the pacu??But the truth is his chance would be slim to live in any water below 62--65 degrees..pacu are tropical fish ..they need heat..

its gonna get to cold

i didnt purchase him, but he has become mine along with 30 gallon tank. i know he must be miserable and i dont know what to do with him. i dont want a larger tank, and it gets too cold outside to put him in a pond. there was an oscar in there with him when i got the tank, and he has died. from what little i know, i think it was "hole in head" disease. the pacu has a sore on his head now, and i am hoping he isnt sick as well. i feel like it might have something to do with the tank being too small. thats why i want him in a new environment as quick as possible.

ok if the ponds NOT yours then dont realease him
keep doing water changes about 30% evry day,,,,
then speak to the local aqaurium if you have one?
or go to the lfs and speak to them,,,
where do you live?
maybe someone on here can help

The pond is mine, but its a large acreage pond, not a fish/garden/decorative pond. Its the pond our cows drink from. it has bream and catfish and everything else that lives in a pond. it isnt filtered or heated, but it does belong to me. i am just afraid he wouldnt survive the winter. What is lfs? sorry.

is your pond connected to any other bodies of water or is it landlocked?
pacu are tough, i have a gut feeling that he would be fine in the winter:)
