Someone who really REALLY knows computers

If i were you i'd go with a custom built PC. you could build a cheapo one for around 1k or less and use the rest one your fish tank or so...the 4870's from ATI sell for around $200 now and from my experience thats a damn good video card. also I'd personally go with a Dual Core Proccessor unless your thinking of OCing your comp...either way Dual Core processors from intel are still pretty stable when you OC them as long as your cooling is decent and Quad Cores are still pretty fun to show off to your friends.. Honestly Alienware will probably last you 5+ years for school, surfing the net, email, etc. but towards gaming..I'd say your alienware would last you 2 to 3 years then you'll start feeling the lag.

if you want the lastest/most expensive you should go for a intel core i7 a x58 mobo and ddr3 ram
but if you want something more reasonable i recommend a 780i mobo or similar intel x48, a q6600 quad core from intel which anyone can basically overclock to 3.0ghz if they have a halfway decent mobo, Ddr2 memory(4gb+ if your going with vista 64bit else go with 3-4gb) for a good graphics card i would get a nvidia 9800gtx+(thats what i have and it runs crysis at high at 30+fps)+its only 150$ if you are going to overclock make sure to get a good cpu cooler(not the stock intel one)
I highly recommend EVGA products as they have just been great in my case
as others have posted, newegg is a great place to order from, great service and fast shipping

My rig:
-PC Power and Cooling 750w PSU
-EVGA 780I FTW edition motherboard
-intel quad core q6600 @ 3.0ghz
-Thermaltake Armor full atx case
-EVGA 9800gtx+ SSC Edition graphics
-1 250gb and 1 700gb Hard Drive
-Tv tuner card(THIS is a great thing to have, its like a DVR)
-8gb Corsair Dominator DDR2 Ram @1066
-Windows vista ultimate 64-bit edition

This cost me about 1800$ @ time of build(last september) and would probably be in the 1000$ to 1500$ now
it runs any game on high

i ordered my Alianware in feb ( i mention it on like every comp post ) was suppose to be here on the 12th of this month but the NVIDIA® GTX 295 G-card has been out of stock for ages. I'm pished off.

YOu can choose any case you want.. go to www.newegg.com

and if you need advice, I can help you set up a smoking fast rig with gobs of power.

Truly you can build a homebuilt for much less money that stomps the piss out of the latest alienware.

SO TRUE...hoe much u gonna spend?

if i had a few grand to spend on a new comp i would build one.

I7 CPU and MOBO
4ghz of ram.
800w psu
1TB HD
a Good Graphic card
Any case u want
Dvd drive

That is really all u need.

everyone who knows computers will tell you not to get alienware.

Computers are all the same,
we just paying for them to assemble and put their name on the computer

why do that when u can do it yourself
