Roughly a week ago, I noticed that my year old angel fish had some orangish/red tint on the right side of her face near the mouth area. She was still eating great and showed no other symptoms, so I just thought that there was some recessive koi angelfish gene popping up in her making her turn orange there. The red continued to grow, though it's still in the same area. It's not on the scales exactly, it's ... well.... it sounds weird but its INSIDE her. The scales are white/clear there, so I can tell that whatever it is happens to be internal. (I took a closer look today when I noticed it was much worse). The main thing is... her mouth is stuck open. It's protruding a bit from her face as well. My biggest concern is that she isn't eating anymore, and is lethargic. Maybe some of you know what this could be - I have never seen anything like it before. The only GOOD news is that ... it's not my favorite fish. Nevertheless, I don't want to lose it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have never seen it but it could be a virally cause lip fibroma, there is no cure for that, I would quarantine the fish and try a broadspectrum antibiotic sach as Furan-2or furanase in case it is just an abcess.

Alright now I'm really freaked out. This morning there was a little bubble over the disease/wound... This afternoon that bubble disappeared. There is a huge open gaping nasty looking red HOLE in her cheek. Its like a cave - blood red and indented in her face. It looks like she can move her lips a little bit but her mouth is still stuck open. It's horrifying. There are even bits of flesh hanging off her face. What the HECK is this???

Worms! SHes' got a parasite. It might be too late already.. But i would dump some salt in and heat up the tank.. Or go to the lfs and get a parasite treatment Quik...

Yup. Sounds like a parasite to me as well. Have you quarantined the fish yet?

Worms? Are you serious? I have tiny, barely visible scrawny white ones on the glass from time to time but I've never been able to get rid of them and they've never done any harm... until now. The only place open this late is WalMart. What medication might they have that I could use on this? And ... I sort of ran out of tanks so I don't have a way to completely quarantine her, aside from a guppy nursery which allows water movement.

The only other fish in there that I might want to keep I could easily move to my big tank... but since it's been a week aren't the odds good that they are also infected? (REAALLLYY not wanting the ropes to get this stuff... it looks disgusting enough on an angel)

You could incorperate a dip med... Water from the tank enough to dip the fish completely in the solution,, and aquarium salt.. I know there is a thread on it somewhere here i have not been able to locate it though..

The mouth part, yes, but there are no problems with the belly area. The picture is almost identical to what she looked like BEFORE her flesh disappeared.
