Something is wrong

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's started in my brother's tank. I noticed it back in Dec 2010 and to me it look like scale damage. At that time the affected area what looked like a smale row of scales and didn't think any of it. It stayed the same for a long time, until the past 2 months.

I looked at it more closely last nigh. and the scales are not damaged.. it's milky white, not stringy orpuffy, it's more of a smooth coat of something but it's not corvering the scales completely. lloks like underneath the scales

Last night it was a quick glance but I thought I saw her attacking the last Rosie Red Minnow. Afterwards it looked like she was trying to position the minnow so she can swallow it. I mentioned it to mny wife and she said the minnow is still in the tank. Then what in the helll was she doing? Scratching herself?
she did rub the sand substrate.

Ok, well things are not looking good.. I don't know if she's gonna make it.. Can't figure out what the white stuff is..

It was suggested to try Erythromycin by seveal individuals. SO I'm running a combo API's EM & General cure..
I really hope she pulls through

Don't medicate a tank unless you know what it is!:duh: This will stress out your fish even more if you don't know what it is!

20nitrates is a bit above average.. Heres what I suggest..

Keep doing what Msshill said about the salt, HOWEVER, start doing daily water changes. Around 30% daily will be fine. The more the better. Try PMing "Lupin". He's pretty well rounded in fish diseases and he might be able to help you out. Good luck

I would stop feeding. Add carbon to remove whatever medication is in the tank. Water change once a day, at least 25-30%. Keep the tank lights dim or off. Dose with Melafix and Pimafix, adding some air stones or a powerhead to help with oxygen.

Do you always feed her rosy red minnows? Do you QT them first?

It was my first time adding them in (3 months ago)and no Unfortunately I did not QT them. Our trusted LFS said they were safe.. My brother has been using them for years with no issues. It took the Pike 2 months to eat them. She usualy ate Feeder Goldfish when she was under my Borther's care.

No more Feeders from now on. Really mad at myself for not QT them.

If the white spots are getting worse, it could be a bacterial infection of some kind. What you will want to do for bacterial infections is go to the pet store and buy Maracyn and Maracyn Two. One is a broad spectrum antibiotic for gram positive bacteria, one is a broadspectrum for gram negative bacteria. An antibiotic for gram positive bacteria will not kill bacteria that are gram negative and vice versa. This could get expensive, but that will depend on how much you want to save the fish.
I saved my Electric Blue sciaenochromis this way from a nasty septic ulcer on his gills, and he went on to be a show fish. Good luck whatever you choose.

I will continue with the Salt treament, just wondering if I should bump the temp to 86 F and daily 30% water changes
She did eat Blood worms last night, so i will continue with that.
