Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has ever ordered from Something Phisy? They have some small discus' for good prices. I have never ordered online, and im kind of nervous about it. If anyone can please give me some feed back, Thanks.

Hi... All I can say is that cheap discus are usually just that cheap and usually not the best quality. While I have not personally ordered from them, I know there are several threads on simplydiscus about them that are not glowing reviews.. take a look and see.. with reviews it's always hard to tell because you don't know what someone's experience with discus is or their expectations.. but I have found that most of the reviews and sponsor and breeder info there is pretty solid. best to try and find a local breeder so you can go and pick out your own discus. I know that Dan (Gulf Coast Discus) is in Houston Texas and is great... you can see some of his tanks and feedback on simply.. HTH Sue:D

Sue's right. That place has horrid reviews. In fact, I don't think I've ever read a good one. Such places prey on first time discus keepers. I also suggest any of the sponsors on SimplyDiscus forum. Most members on that site are hard core discus keepers. Shady sponsors are not allowed over there. I have ordered fish from several of the sponsors, including Dan as Sue suggested, and have never been disappointed.

I've ordered 5 2" Assorted Discus from them, two of them had Hole in the head disease and I had to treat them with Metro-Pro. They came in the mail the next day that I ordered them and they were eating right way as soon as I put them in my tank, bunch of little pigs! I Probably would not order from them again, but I would definialy quarantine them before putting them with my other adult discus. I emailed the people about the hole in the head and they never responded to me about it. I've had the disicus for almost 4 weeks now and they seem to be doing great and already growing fast from me feeding them 3 to 4 times a day. There's always a risk when you order fish online, I would prefer to find discus from a local breeder in town, there's always craigslist. People are always selling baby discus for $10 -$15.

What area of Texas are you in.

RANDY, is that you? you still breeding discus?

patrick throbe in dallas breeds and has discus, nice healthy discus, but I don't know how because his water is not clear and looks cloudy. he has 3 inch discus for $25.00 , I also have some discus 4.0-4.5 snow whites

Also, if you buy from someone in your state, the shipping rates are pretty low, as least in my state it is. I was quoted a shipping rate yesterday of $29 something for priority overnight from FedEx. I would be hard pressed to drive this trip for that. Not to mention the time. Thought I would pass this on.

Pellegrino, I find it interesting you patronized the site a few times despite your experience involving HITH which indicates wrong sales conduct on the site's part. Isn't this a little contradictory on your part? They need to be responsible and determine the healthy specimens when they sell to their customers. Discus are very expensive for the most part involving the maintenance to breed and rear them into adults.

"Cheap" and "discus" should never be put in the same sentence. I am sure the others have already voiced concerns regarding this very site in question that sells "cheap" discus. Unless the seller is a very much willing breeder who wishes to share his passion to you (which in most cases, this does happen), the low price is just not right for a single discus and should be a cause for concern as it may not have involved a lot of efforts on the seller's part. This is one thing a lot of discus beginners never understood. Why is the price high? Simple. Discus are specialized group that need your extra attention more than any cichlids do requiring several water changes and feedings to keep up with their growth.

Let's give leeway to others when deciding where to buy and not try to patronize a site with doubtful price rates. If one vendor is not found to have glowing reviews at all, then find another vendor who may earn your trust and respect eventually if the transactions are done right. If possible, widen your options and try to finalize your decisions based on the pricing, efforts involved, personality of the vendor, looks of the fish and overall store maintenance. As always, all transactions are caveat emptor so be very careful and particularly selective in choosing your sources for discus. Discus are not quite as simple when it comes to collecting healthy specimens as most other species are.
