I'm sure you are enjoying them. Stendker discus are world famous for quality. Thanks to the hard work and incredible dedication of Hans Koops van't Jagt (known to everyone as Discus Hans) hobbyists in the US can enjoy Stendker quality as well.
Yes I am enjoying them. I'm using a different method of grow out this time. They are in the planted tank with weekly water changes and complete canister filter cleaning weekly vs my normal bare bottom tank and daily wc's. Their colors are great. I hope they get huge over the next year. The plants keep the nitrates at -0- and the CO2 makes the PH 6.2. The other thing I did different is not to medicate during QT as a precautionary treatment with exception of Prazi for 1 week because flukes kicked up with from shipping stress. Hans advised me not to medicate them unless I saw definate signs of illness.

I never medicate new fish either unless it becomes necessary, and it rarely does honestly. They most certainly have the genes to grow huge. Good luck with them. You have more courage than I do, growing out discus in a planted tank. :)

It's not courage this time. I completely got out of discus because I got burnt out with the daily wc's. At that time I had 9 discus tanks going. (4 breeding pairs, couple of community discus tanks and 3 QT tanks with fish from 3 different sources). Keeping the hoses, aging barrels, etc separate and washing hands between tanks put me over the top. Way too much! I'm going to say I have a more "laid back" attitude this time or a "whatever happens, happens" attitude. LOL It was hard to do, but I'm learning to like it. The fish have grown and still have great shape. I think a 178 gallons of water volume helps too, vs a 55 or 75 gallon grow out tank and daily's. When I see a bb tank, it causes me to pause and question myself, but for my own sanity, this is the way I'll go this time. I consider it an experiment. ;)

I enjoy visiting with you and comparing methods, Hillbilly. :)

That's interesting. I have 40-60 discus at any given time with anywhere from 7 to 12 tanks going, depending on how many pairs I have, I'm sure some discus hobbyists would freak out if they saw me work around my fish, because I'm not the disease phobic keeper. When I get a group of new fish in, all of them go into their own tank, and that's about as far as precautions go. They usually stay there for months and months unless I put them with other fish to make more tank space. I don't medicate them unless they get sick, don't wash my hands between tanks, or any of that other stuff. I have mostly larger tanks, as opposed to many smaller ones to cut down on work and save space. I don't store water. I have a well, so I mix hot and cold water for temp. and hook a water hose directly to the faucet, with the other end directly into the tank. I keep sponge filters cycled in the sumps of other tanks, so I can quickly set up a tank for pairs. I am careful about who I get fish from, and only get fish from a handful of people that I trust, but I tend not to worry over the fish that much. I don't get stressed over them. It works for me, my fish are round and fat, but everyone has their own way of doing it. :)

I did order from them. I ordered a Flowerhorn cichlid and I will admit they sent him in a timely manor. And they did send me the FH I did order. However, the Fh I received was not what he was supposed to be.

He turned out to be low grade but was supposed to be this uber rare, expensive high grade.

He is perfectly fine to date. I've had him for 2 years now and he was/is healthy. I am happy with him cause of his personality. Anyway, I guess use caution with ordering.

Did you purchase from Hans direct? I found his NY distributors Fishtown USA in Flushing NY - very expensive. I was hoping to start out with Stendker quality discus. I am a discus newbie - I was in awe with somethingsphishy with the variety/pics & great pricing & was all ready to order a ton of discus juvies but...

Now I want Stendkers. Heard Hans has the best quality & award winning discus breeding.
