Varieties of discus is fine but generally not a good idea to mix small discus with full size adult.

Just my opinion.

This Sue agrees with the other Sue...;)

Go to the sponsor section of Simply Discus, if you are having fish shipped at least you can be sure they will be quality fish if they are a sponsor at Simply Discus. You may also find a breeder close to you that you could drive to and pick out your own fish.

Also, I have bought from Dan at Gulf Coast Discus before and he shipped them to me in Iowa. They are the HBCT's in my avatar...the best quality fish I have ever owned to date.

I wished I had learned about that site Somethingsphishy before I had bought Discus from them. I actually thought they were a good place to buy discus from looking at their good reviews from custmers. At local places where I'm from they were selling discus for $40 to $50 each, I figured buying it online was cheaper for me figuring it was $8.89 each then the shipping it came out for me was $20 each for 5 discus. I didn't expect to see so many replies about what a bad company Somethingsphishy was, my bad sorry. I personaly don't think it matters if you pay a little less or more for Discus, when introducing a new fish they're always going to have some sort of dieases. It's all about the person who has experience and dedication with this hobbie and knowledge. I've had aquarium experience for over 20 years, and always had good experiences with my fish.

I have to disagree, and say you don't always have to deal with disease with new fish. I have never received diseased fish from reputable sources. All my new fish are quarantined as a precaution, but I never worry about getting sick fish from people I know and trust. I always buy fish in groups anyway, a dozen of these, or 10 of those, and rarely mix groups from different sources. This further reduces any chance of disease outbreak. Even if I do mix fish, it's after many months of the fish being housed in my systems. I would also say, never trust reviews about a company that are on their own website. Get your reviews independently, because who knows if they made them up or not?

Good reply Hillbilly. I agree, I just got 8 Stendkers and QT'd for 4 weeks.... have been healthy as a horse. They moved to the planted tank without a hitch last week. (except for their fear of the Ghost Knife) LOL

I'm sure you are enjoying them. Stendker discus are world famous for quality. Thanks to the hard work and incredible dedication of Hans Koops van't Jagt (known to everyone as Discus Hans) hobbyists in the US can enjoy Stendker quality as well.

When I quarantined my 5 new discus, I changed the water everyday for 4 weeks with metro-pro and parasite clear. It's always good to quarantine fish it's very important! I'm just saying that for newbies if they want to get into discus so that they won't deal with all the trouble with fish diseases. I kind of agree with you that you don't have to worry about getting sick, but they get sick when they're stressed. When you introduce any new fish with discus they tend to get stressed out because of their new environment or something added, and when they get stressed that's when they get diseases. If you know someone who have discus and purchase from them then yea I agree, it's safe fish to buy from them that is if they take good care of their discus.
