my jack dempsy was fine earlier today then i fed it 12 rosy reds and and now its staying on the bottom of the tank and its changed to a very dark color. could this be from eating too much?

oscars tend to eat and get lazy and take a 'nap' on the bottom of the tank. gotta be careful with feedres though to because of parasites

12 isn't alot for an oscar, even a small one. when my old one was around 9 inches he'd eat 10-12 goldfish in one meal

plus i have a pike cichlid who is only about 4 inches long.....he can already scarf down 8 rosy reds with no problem.

u should never use feeders anyways

they're fun what can i say? i'd rather watch a fish chase a feeder than one come to the surface to eat a pellet or some chopped up meat that a human would normally eat. i know you risk parasites but they aren't going to find pellets in the wild. it's just fun to watch.

well if its the chase that matters to you, shell out for some healthy fish instead of goldfish

thats perfectly normal. when stressed/unhappy, JDs are a light/pale coloration, when secure/content, they are a dark color. all cichlids i know of follow this color-mood scheme. if your JD is normally a much lighter color, its probably being harassed by a tankmate or has no caves/decorations to hide in.
