somethings wrong with my fish, need HELP!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Try testing out the water for ph spike, i'm certainly sure your too low at the moment. Do you have oxygen going through the tank? This is what i would do, get some sea shells and spread a thin layer not too much but just enough to cover the bottom layer. This will help you to stablised the ph spike, while your tank cycles in a few weeks time. Change 30-40% water weekly and 50% water fornightly, check your ph scale and other values of properties in tank such as ammonia, nitrate, nitrite when you change water, but i can assure you its the ph spike which is killing your fish.

im puting the old filters on. the catfish only grows to 5" it said at the petstore, its shiny with black spots. but the knife fish died yesterday, so i know it didnt eat the neons. and the catfish never bothered anything before. thanks for the help guys.

when i first got the tank i put some ph leveler or whatever its called in, to make it 7.0. we used to put it in our old tank. but i will check it.

i wouldnt put that ph neutralizer in the tank! or the clarifyer i would get the test kits on ph,ammonia, nitrite, nitrate asap you need to find out what these levels are and what did you do with the water from the other two tanks??

yea you need a ammonia, nitrite, nitrate test kit pronto.

buy a big bottle of prime water dechlorinator. i am sure your ammonia is high.
prime will remove ammonia, detox nitrite and nitrate. note prime isnt a replacement for proper cycling.

should i get a bottle of stress relief for the fish. becaue im sure there stressing like crazy now??

aww man. the lady at petsmart told me it only had to be cycled for 2 or 3 days. crap. what should i do about the fish that are in it now??
thats the amount of time it takes to develope basic ammonia bacteria colony.
but that bacteria colony isnt big enough to process a whole aquariums bioload, or even a single fish. so you must wait for it to grow.
bacteria grow to the amount of food(ammonia).
then while that ammonia bacteria is growing, they make nitrites. then nitrites bacteria must grow. they make nitrates. then thats the end as far as your concerned.
but you should monitor nitrates weekly and do water changes when nitrates get to dangerous levels.(preferably before they get to danger mark)

edit: btw you should monitor all the levels during cycling incase they get to dangerous levels. this process should take atleast 2 weeks

right now the best thing you can do this second is a 50% water change if you have dechlorinator

edit: you can get it but thats not the most important thing.

well im at work right now and im going when i get off to get the dechlorinator. so i need a checklist of things to get, and what to do when i get home. i just hope i dont lose any more fish.

so at the fish store i need to get:
water test kit: ph, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite
dechlorinator

when i get home:
test water
50% water change
add dechlorinator

so i shoud test the water first before i do the water change and add dechlorinator.

also should i feed the fish tonight.

and if im missing anything in the list or am wrong about something please tell me, or redesign the list. and what order should i do everything.

thanks agian guys, i dont know how i can say thanks enoughf yall have been such a big help for me.
