somethings wrong with my fish, need HELP!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Agree with Twisted penguin. Keep doing 70-80% water changes daily. I wouldn't use Prime. The water changes should keep your ammonia down with no need for it.
If your old filters were disconnected for more than a couple of hours all the filter bacteria would have died off. Do you know anybody near you who has a cycled tank and could spare a filter sponge. If yes go and get it. remember that filter bacterai only will live for about 2 hours when they are taking out of the filter. Alwas transport filter sponges in water.
Personally, I would raise hell in your LFS for telling you that three days cycling is enough. Whoever told you is in th wrong job. Ask for a refund of what you have spent on the fish.

Agreed big water changes every day for at least a week, i made a similar mistake with my tank but managed to save all but two or three fish. Add prime but only as a conditioner but ram the tank with nutrafin cycle, works wonders in getting the filters going and keeping amonia and nitrites down.

it,s an algae bloom that will go away don't put more stuff in your water it might take a day or two to clear run your old filters in the water and get some bubbles going sorry bout the fish my BGK is gettin big

Algae bloom? It's an UNcycled tank. Algae doesn't grow in a brand new uncycled tank.
Sorry-just saw you're new and I don't want to come off as rude (forgive me!):) But algae needs an established tank in order to grow.

not algea, its a bacteria bloom tank doesnt need to be cycled, but it happens when BB isnt presnt in the filter media, you can observe it in a tank that has been overdosed with a tretment.

aww man. the lady at petsmart told me it only had to be cycled for 2 or 3 days. crap. what should i do about the fish that are in it now??
:wall:

petsmart is the same company that sells terrestrial (land) plants as aquatic plants. take anything that people from petsmart say only as partial truth unless you know they really have a passion for the hobby. many people that work in the fish department know very few accurate facts about keeping fish

so i should dose prime according to the normal ammount?? because the nitrite and nitrate levels are going to go up. correct??? thanks!!
if yes you can dose according to the normal amount for future water changes. like said above you probably will need water changes every day atleast until you have no ammonia present. with nitrite you will probably need every couple of days. but really let your test kit be your guide. most say what toxic amounts are

iI had the same on my first tank, but for some reason all of the fish survived. I did everything right, but I missed an obvious problem; my filter wasn't working. So I basically cycled my tank for 2+ months without a filter. For some reason my tank worked properly with out a filter after that, although I bought a new filter just in case. Fish are so unpredictable because one of my perfectly healthy corys that I bought yesterday just died for no reason.
