I'm an electromechanical engineer. I work on radiologically-sourced high-speed scanning systems used in large-scale manufacturing (petro-chemical, chemical, paper, plastics, metals, etc.). Same electronics as I worked on in missile guidance and radar systems. Only the pay is better then in the military, I don't have to run 12 miles a frickin week anymore, I don't get shot at, am home every evening, get overtime pay, and I can afford to build up my hatchery without the fear of receiving unexpected deployment orders.
Oh, forgot to mention that I also receive a pension check every month for my 20+ years in the service. That doesn't suck either.
