Hello; Over 30+ years teaching in public schools (24 at the middle school level) I ran across a few messed up students. From your posts I get the impression that you are not among them. An internet discussion forum being not the same as person to person interaction, but still I get the impression you may approach normal.
Near as I can tell in todays society ( my experience in the USA south) is that by around the 7th or 8th grade the influence of society can overwhelm the parents influence. This observation was made well over a decade ago and before the current availability of social media as it now exists.
I really have very little idea what kids can get into on the internet so it may be a much bigger influence than I imagine.

I like to think that me and my friends are not so badly influenced, most at my school aren't but there are people I have heard of at public schools here that are up to no good.
The internet has a lot of stuff that can make or break kids if what you say is true. I personally decided to avoid social media, and immerse myself in research and reading on the net, especially with sites like MFK
Maybe it's just to do with my introversion

Pops i feel for you brother. I'm from the other side of the trestle bridge in Everett. Substance abuse is rampant in that area of Washington. So many of my classmates are junkies now or have records and doing time for drugs. I left for college back in the 90's and when i came back it was a town full of zombies
I actually saw some offered on ebay a few weeks ago and was tempted to place an order for one.
