Sooooo who wants to sell me a 3D background?

Just go with whatever you prefer, everyone is going to have a preference on something--I was just voicing my opinion in response to what others had said.

We are lucky we actually have a choice on the matter--I'm sure a decade ago people would have killed for this stuff.

I looked around prior and there was slim pickings if you wanted to stay under $200 for 3D backgrounds.

Aquaterra

I honestly like the ridges on the one by DBN over the one by AT - but that's personal preference. Price wise they're in the same range with DBN beating it slightly but nothing too significant.

That AT background literally looks like a five year old took a flat piece of foam and cut it a few times with a knife before it was painted.

DBN backgrounds are actually molded and cast from the real thing, not just sculpted by someone.

See, I feel the opposite way. I think all the aquaterra backgrounds look like the paint is very cheap and the texture always looks fake. Tree trunks aren't perfectly smooth!

My buddy's tank says otherwise :) I've seen Joey's Amazona background on his 180g, it was spectacular. Looked just like a real tree. And the Rainforest one is awesome. It's the one I wanted but was backordered for way too long. They do get pricey though. I went through one of AT's dealer, so I can't comment on their customer service.

See my thing with their backgrounds is not the structure or casting. It's the color. They're too saturated, and look very artificial when underwater with fluorescent lighting hitting it.

But your right, at least we do have options and get to go back and forth online saying which is cooler :D

And I agree, that background does have better shape than the Mesa Rock. But if you compare it to AT's Canyon Rock, then my choice again goes to AT

LOL, there's nothing I enjoy more than arguing with you about such trivial things, Jose.

See, now that second one isn't bad, but that looks just as "cartoonish" to me as any DBN background!

I think a much more valid method for this madness than AT vs DBN (which will go nowhere because it's just opinion) would be to compare specific backgrounds next to each other from each company with the specific look you're going for and pick from there for yourself.

Sorry, but that background in that tank pictured looks "fake" to me. The cuts in the rock look so artificial.
Haha you sure? :D

Yes I'm sure. Using a terrestrial canyon as a model for an underwater environment when you're talking about a fake foam background in a glass box doesn't equal "natural" looking in reality. ;)

LOL, DNG has like 20 versions of this 'canyon rock' wall! Don't even get me started on this atrocity! What is this? Looks like feces scattered over the ground haha
