So should I just get rid of the arowana? And what are some fish legal to the us. Preferably I would want to change the water at the most every week and a half. So some fish ideas that would fit those guidelines would be great.

It all comes down to what type of fish you prefer. And how big the tank is and your filtration is a huge factor.
There is plenty of awsome cichlids you could get. One 50% wc once a week can make it more suitable. I tend to change 80% at least once a week on all my 30-35 tanks ranging from 54L to 3200L.
I prefer predator fish, I was thinking some spotted gar and bichirs and maybe a few cichlids. I was wandering.... is a silver arowana less maintenance than a jardini?(a jardini is very similar to an Asian arowana) if a silver arowana is less maintenance than a jardini I would be happy to get it. By the time the silver is to big for my 78x24x26 I’ll be in college(in 4 years) so I’ll need to sell it off to someone.
Do not get a silver arowana, it will outgrow your tank before 4 years are up. Also large silver arowanas aren’t easy to rehome.

Agreen on the arowana. But not on catfish. They make a mess to. I would go with some smaller cichlids. Perhaps some pike cichlid and some eartheaters.
If you arnt up to your wc game you should not go with large fish at all. Some smaller cichlid is what i would suggest.
Take a look at my silver arowana. Its about 70-75cm and not even two years old. This tank is 210x180x100cm and the silver dont look small right?
If I’m being honest I think op is in over his head. He is 14, not 19 like his profile states, and going to a school that gives him quite a heavy work load. He doesn’t even have time for a weekly water change on a 65 let alone a 200+ gallon.
Op, if I were you then I would sell the jardini and make a little planted community in the 65. Under stock it and put some nice hardy plants in there. Some tetras, a few bottom dwellers, maybe even a school of hatchets. That would be a nice tank right?

Ok, I won’t do any arowana. I’ll go with some bichirs and maybe a spotter gar and cichlids, I’ll do 50 percent water changes every 9 days. Or every Sunday if that’s what it comes to.
It’s not that I don’t have time to do water changes, I really like these fish so I’ll do them weekly if that’s what’s necessary, it’s more that I just wanted to relax on the weekends. But I care more about these fish more than I do relaxing lol
