My Fly River turtles shell seems to be coming off . He's still eating and fairly active .

1. Was the turt transferred recently to a new tank?
2. If it was moved, was it's shell allowed to dry during the transfer?
3. Is there any salt in the tank?
4. Is there calcium supplement in the tank?

My FRTs (all 4 of them) sloughed off the surface layer of their carapace after their relocation from one state to another.
I keep them in slightly salted water with a pH around 8.0 (They're from areas with limestone bedrock in the river bases). Temp is 80-82F. Substrate is composed of aragonite rice and bulk limestone.

He transferred roughly a week ago .

The shell was allowed to dry yes

No salt

No calcium . However
My tap water has a high ph and I live in a limestone rich area . Temp is 29 c

You obviously know way more than me about this species, so the only things I wanted to add, was if all your theories ddon't pan out, I might suggest it could be a bacterial infection. They occur in turtles fairly frequently, however I am unsure of FRTs and how it affects them as they appear to have more of a leathery shell rather than pleated scutes. Again, I never kept them so im just throwing stuff out there

At the end of the day, salt and calcium are always a turtles best friend, especially when they need a remedy for unknown reasons

Merry Christmas everyone

Merry Chrismas to you too . I'm hoping it's not bacterial

Well, you can always start Melafix if u want, it won't be affected by salt or calcium, but if it's not bacterial I t won't help. Still, a very mild mediciation mainly holistic w/ herbal natural remedies in it.
One of those things I wish I had in hand . I'm thinking about taking him out , removing the Peeling shell by hand and then applying a salt solution . Also dosing the tank with salt, sadly don't have any aquarium and don't know which type I can use .

not sure if I would use non-iodized tablesalt or Epsom salt, but s for Melafix, you can pick some up tomorrow from your LFS. DO you have a good strong UVB light?
