South American x Central American success!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for updating on these guys. I really am interested in seeing weather or not these fish are fertile. This is one of my favorite threads. If I was closer I would tak a few in a minute. No MFK'ers or local fish clubs up there?

Ceibals!!!!!How many are albinos are there in a spawn????????

Not really no. Maybe in town but deffinitely not where I am from. A few of my buddies keep cichlids but are the type to buy any cool fish that eats cool stuff and throw it in a tank together. I recently had to give up a sixteen inch Claris catfish because of its size and went to mfk immediately to see who would want him I got offers to ship him to places like New England but where I had him for so long , from 1.5 inches, I needed to know he'd be okay so I gave him to a good home in town. These fry though I would be more confident in shipping that is why I tried this first.

These are convict Ceibal hybrids and there are no albino, they seem to have codominantly shared genes from both parents.- importracer

Update on the coloration of the largest male fry really getting cramped, so let me know if your interested. Working out shipping deal with a specialty fish store owner in town.Glass could use a cleaning.....shh...254.jpg257.jpg256.jpg254.jpg257.jpg256.jpg

Colours on the fry really starting to show everything from bright reds to dark blues and greens. Truly awesome looking fish. I will deffinitly be raising one or two to adult hood in a different tank....not 50 though. Still have no idea what to do with these little amazing creatures. Also adult ceibal growth may be able to be seen in these pictures, he sneaked his way in to a couple. Also some aggression amongst two young males show colours with fins fanned out and gill plate perturding out. These guys truly are amazing looking these pictures will not do them justice.. Some look to have similiar colours to that of Festae.

They look healthy but space is going to be a factor soon. Meanwhile I believe a couple are attempting to breed in my segregation tank. Will be updating if so.

A breeding pair has been established in the seperate fry tank. This will determine if these fry can in fact conceive young. I will post some pictures of breeding colours what seems to be a breeding threesome... Soon.

Interesting thread. Some one set the rule that CA and SA can never be hybridized except for Festae which is a CA living in northern part of SA. Wrong. Convict and Red Cibal are thousand miles apart.
