There is something called "Negative attention-seeking behavior", wherein children deliberately instigate negative responses from others because they find it rewarding... more-so than positive reinforcement.

Mom and dad and housekeeper and tutors hit me and my sister few times each day and now nothing wrong with us. Now, mom and dad very old and dementing, but they know my wife not cleaning after them, LOL, they need stay clean themselves and be well-behaved with polite manners, otherwise, they sleep outside with the rose bushes that night!
