Spawn of the Angels

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lol yes! I also have a pleco growout but these 5 babies made it in the 90g on their own despite all the angels. I have sooooooo many plecos!!!! They breed very easily and babies are easy to raise. I feel we have very similar things going on lol.

I would like to get some true Zebra plecos but at the current going price not gonna happen. I have shown pics of them to the wife but if I walk in with 6 fish at $1200

These plecos took a huge spike in price the last few years. I wanted a leopard frog pleco so badly and wanted to breed them when a local breeder had them. But now they are 400$ or more each and they all got shipped out. I think it's because they are endangered in the wild. Maybe similar for the true zebras. What about the false zebras?

I haven't seen a increase in price for zebras recently. I can still get them for 200 online (not like im going to get them though). That actually seems cheaper then usual. I just checked

I meant a spike in the last 5 years or so. Not so recent I guess.

I was able to secure a microworm culture from a fellow locally. Transferred the fry to a standard 20g and have been doing 50% minimum water changes daily. Looks like a swarm of mosquitoes in the tank right now with all the free swimmers.

Yay, I had pretty good success (for myself anyway) with microworms. Even for EBR fry. I just can't do the BBS hatching. I like that the microworms can live up to 2 days underwater so less of a chance to overfeed and polute. Especially if/when you have to go to work, a morning feed lasts until you get home and then you can do a good cleaning. Good luck with them!!!

Thanks angelcrze angelcrze . The culture I acquired came in 2 4oz serving cups. I combined them into one large container and have now started 2 additional cultures in 1 pint containers and 1 4oz culture. I have just been leaving the lids on loose. The large culture is forming a dry surface film so I sprayed it with aged water.
I have BS eggs and have a DIY hatcher. I need to use up the eggs so I will start it up in a few days.

I also did 2 cultures at once so when the first flopped, I had another going at peak.

I used oatmeal with a sprinkle of yeast in a container with a perforated lid. I never got the crusty film, but my worms reproduced (like double) within 24hrs. The worms climb up the side rim a bit, but didn't reach the top ever. I think they want to be closer to the food, so not something that ever got loose (as far as I know!).

I have lost the spawn. Only 2-3 fry swimming around. I have 5 juvenile angels in my 55g planted and found I have a pair. I did not pull the eggs.
