so you are going to go to Wisconsin and catch a sturgeon?

I can't imagine there is any good reason to do it.

Lets go spear him

agreed, i hate the fact that people get pleasure out killing good animals for sport, fair play if there going to eat them thats fine i can cope with that, but to fire a bolt or spear into a fish then leave it on the side to die slowly ... just wrong man !

I have hunted in the past myself, i used to go rabbiting, we used snares and Lurchers ( Dog's ) we ate and sold on all our kills.

You don't fire a bolt or spear into the fish, you throw it. How is using dog's fairplay? To even spear a fish when you are sitting on a lake is an accomplishment. The odds of a fish this size coming through the hole you drill/cut in the ice are not very good.

The dog's we used !!! didn't kill the animals, they simply caught them that is all we killer them by breaking there necks, then afterwards when back home with our kills, we gutted the rabbits then they were packed in ice, then sold to butchers.

they were not killed for a trophy photo then thrown back into the bush to rot so we could be big men and say we killed an innocent animal, they were caught and killed for food ! just like lamb, beef, pork and fish.

My point is if you miss interprated it ! was i don't agree with mindless killing of animals so you can a high out of it, kill them to eat fairplay, but for fun or for a trophy shot ... Nahhhh that don't settle right with me !

Take for instance, the Florida Gar, that fish takes years and i do mean YEARS for it to reach a size of 6feet long, you get some bloke who thinks he's robin hood with a bow and arrow and shootsa that fish square in the head or body drags it out of the water weighs it get's a photo with his kill maybe smashes a new personal best record, well done, then they have no other use for it so toss it back into the water ... WHERES THE ACCOMPLISHMENT IN THAT !!!

where in the article did it say anything about what the guy did with the fish?

You didn't, i'm speaking generally, You seemed egar to flame me and put me in my place so i thought it would only be right to back up my original statement by giving you a full indepth reason as to why i posted my original post.

i'm not going to get into a flame war with you so if you have that in mind, may i suggest you you think twice, as any sort of insulting or agressive behavior isn't tollerated on MFK, (NOT SAYING YOU ARE ACTING IN SUCH A WAY) i just thought i'd point this out :)

I seriously doubt that anybody throws away a sturgeon to rot, they are delicious.
I do agree that the trophy hunting of gar is down right stupid as most are just killed for nothing.
A few of us do eat gar by the way, it is a bit bland and a pain to prepare but gar balls made from steamed, flaked gar mixed in hush puppy batter then deep fried are quite good and a large gar can feed a lot of people.

Flaming you? No, I don't know why everyone jumped on the bandwagon to want to spear this guy when he was legal in every sense. it was during season and never did it say anywhere in the article about what he did with the fish. I have sat out on a lake in my darkhouse in the middle of winter waiting to spear a fish, so I know its not that easy. look at the dimensions on a 75 (18 wide by 4 feet) That is around the size of the hole you are using, more than likely shorter and wider. For anything to come through that hole and you to be ready is not that easy.
