"Special Arowana Tank"

i always thought there should be some kind of foam cushion inside the hood.. non toxic of course..something that would give if the arow hit it with force.. theres alot of arow owners you would think someone would come up with something to order special for the arow hoods..

the hood means nothing if you have glass condensation trays which are a must in an aro tank

water level is high the aro can only leave the water less than 1 inch in my tank before he hits the condensation trays

Well, if you have a two feet deep tank, couldnt you just fill it halfway up?

And I thought if you had it filled all the way to the top it would be easyer for the aro to jump out?

what would be the point in having a 2ft deep tank only half full that would make a 180g tank only 90g

i always thought the power of an aros jump was from the last few flicks of the tail as he was leaving the water

Yeah it would only be 90 gallons of water, but it would still have the length and width, I was just curiouse as i have seen some arowana tanks only halfway full. But I dont think I could really do this in my tank as Im setting up to be planted and its going to have p-bass and some pieces of driftwood.

I think it could possibly work on a barebottom tank maybe?

I dont think it gets all that power from the last flicks of the tail, Im sure its jumps like any other fish such as a bass, its already gaining speed for the jump as its under water.

you may be right

but i was just thinking aros are a lot better jumpers than other fish and the way the fins are it would indecate the power comes from the rear of the fish when it leaving the water

Same here, I have never heard of those...

But arowanas are definately bettrer jumpers then other fish, look at there body shape.

i only have one arowana and she doesn't seem to be a jumper.. i guess only time will tell. I currently have the egg crate light cover that we use for tank dividers covering the large holes in the big tank with a 4 inch square cut out in the center for feeding.

I was thinking of buying some terra cotta flower pots to cover the food holes and weigh down the egg crates as Pinky gets bigger and stronger, just in case.

i like the net idea too.. maybe when we get the 240 set up i'll try something like that.. i really don't want to put a big wooden canopy on it like these other tanks.. but i don't know how i would light the tank without it.. something else to think about..
