Heres a curious update. I spoke with the manager at my lfs. The girl who personally ordered the fish for me. She said when she spoke to the guy on the phone (Ross i think) from segrest she asked him for, as listed, "full color red texas" he told her " i dont have real red texas" she said "well why are they on the list?, she (me) wants real red texas" he said " we dont have real red texas" she got mad and kept asking him why the heck are they on the list? And he said "well ill send you two free" and thats what he sent. Two free what? I dunno im guessing regular texas. So there.

Too rosy for a simple texas, I think

Maybe I could throw my $0.02 in (full disclosure: I work at Segrest, but not in sales). We get in small, inexpensive "red texas" in a couple different sizes all the time. As you all now, buying these fish small from breeders means you get them cheap, but not all of these fade out to become the true red texas. The rest just end up as various types of FH (including some really nice kamfas)
So it's luck of the draw with a lot of these fish. We've even put aside a whole batch and grown them out in ponds here to see what the results looked like. A good percentage of them faded and turned into monster Red Texas. When we have fish like that (or request them from our suppliers), we call them "Full Color Red Texas" and the price jumps from $10-20 retail to $150-300 retail. I can tell you right now we haven't had those in in a little while.
Woofy, it sounds like that's what you were asking for (you probably saw it in our online catalog- which is not an availability list but a reference of all the fish we've had in over the last few years. Your LFS probably saw our smaller sized Red Texas on the list and ordered those. We make sure to explain to our customers that what they'll get is smaller fish that might fade to true red texas as adults but we can't guarantee it. Hence the confusion. I'm sure you got one of our medium red texas. It should turn into a very nice fish and perhaps fade out as it gets bigger. Hope that clears things up a bit!

I understNd the availablity issue. But there is a difference in selling small red texas and telling customers they might or might not fade but they are still red texas than selling a completely different fish in this case kamfas. Which i think is what everyone is having a hard trouble with. Segrest knows these are kamfas and sells those as red texas and from my understad from what you just said keeping the real red texas that retailed small at $10 and now grew them out in your ponds to $200 fish. Is that correct or did i take something wrong? So when segrest sends out the kamfas knowing its a luck of the draw ro get a red texas which no one here seems to have, and allll these hobbyist make 10 post daily about their new red texas only to find out they dont have one THATS the real issue here. So my idea would have been that until segrest can figure out which ones are true red texas from kamfas they really shouldnt sell them anymore until you can provide customers with the fish and species that theyre paying for. And granted some do turn out to be really nice kamfas so some win in the end. But i still think its wrong to market this fish intil segrest gets it right and not send anymore kamfas. And considering how rare it is to find a true red texas at petsmart maybe you should label them kamfa. So that one mislabled mistake different surprise fish is the red texas:)

Btw quick update the fish in this post turned out to be full green texas :) which i paid for even though segrest sent them for free. Makes no sense but hey its just money right?

Why you mad?? Hybrid flowerhorn are about luck. Not all come out nice but having the opportunity to buy the offspring of a "true"red texas is pretty cool ... be mad at your Lfs for not knowing what they got and labeling them as such

.. classic kamfas are awesome. Props to you guys for being able to purchase them at such a low price.cheers
