Spider Bite...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have lived most of my life in Wisconsin and Iowa and brown recluse bites are rare enough that if someone gets bitten and develops necrosis then it usually makes the news. While it does happen on rare occasion the chances are extremely low. I heard much more about people being bit by black widows when I lived in California than I ever have about brown recluse bites. Maybe the spiders all like Illinois though and don't cross the border, but if that's true then it shouldn't be that hard to find some evidence to support the claim that they are a common occurance there.

Yep and at least once a year a big one crawls all over you while you are sleeping statically.

Yellow sac spider bite would be my guess too. Unlike recluses and wolf spiders, they actually do have the correct combination of temperament and contact with humans (like, for example, the air conditioning systems of Mazda 6's) to cause bite incidents. There generally is no necrosis associated with their bites, and the inflammation (like what we see in the picture -- it is not necrotic!) will subside after a few days.

Provided that spiders were exonerated, though, I would still suspect some sort of arthropod, though, because of the crater in the center of the inflammation, that wouldn't be there if it were a staph or strep infection.

:duh: I do know that.
Current self-help project is: Stop reading all experienced MFKer posts & Start posting Least Likely scenarios. WTH.
THATS how I discovered that this is a pleco bite. Hole+ hickey similarity+MFKer=pleco bite.
Don't argue with possibilities. they happen & cannot be ruled out.
There's plenty of guys who get off on lingering in their tanks during non-essential water changes.
I know this.
Spiders don't even have nuthin ta do with it.
They're misunderstood and under-friended.

Omg new favorite word. Under-friended. Check out what i found today! I live in fl, theyre everywhere. recluse.png

AConrad, sneaking in a spider pic, instead of a link which must be clicked-on-by-choice is practically unforgivable.
That is just lower than Low.............

This thread has helped me to identify several ppl who, if met in person, I would not shake their hand.
Harbingers of Doom, spider lovers, creepsters who probably have something up your sleeves. living there.

that first one appears very evil and fast, an abominable combination of traits.
the 2nd one looks like a lanky albino tick. lurking in a flower.

Not shaking your hand.
