What we forget sometimes is that the pets we have and take care of are ANIMALS first, then pets.In the wild, these "animals" would eat whatever they can find, be it spider, worms, birds, etc. We can't really compare their immune system to a human being because there are differences in immunities. Some build immunities to venom. If it was my fish..and cash is scarce, then I would find food for it in the wild, in this case, spiders are plentiful. Any type of bug should be safe for food for the aro. They do have instinct not to take in food that is not palatable. Notice they spit some food out sometimes, that's why. Give it a try, let us know, but do this at your own risk, in that, I don't have access to the particular spider you have. Orb weaver spiders here in the US are "wimps", with the exception of the black widow, and the brown recluse, which are not orb weavers. there is my .02 cents, hope it's worth someting.

yeah, i agree. i see my fish spit out any food that dont seem fresh to him, even beef heart or any red meat thats been quite a while in the freezer. and by the way, the spider worked. any live food as long as no pesticide contamination. will post pics soon

hey, why don't you take some pictures of the spiders. :) was wondering how they looked like.

will post as soon as i get good pics, theyre big but quite frail and fast moving when alive

Are they called "gagambang hari"? I think that's their name :) They make huge orbs, with an "X" right in the middle ...bumble bee coloration "yellow and black"...Those are not that poisonous, I use to handle those alot, get bit and not one swelling or pain...Then again, I've got bitten by lots of spiders in the P.I. with no invenomation, and those are big bites. Unless, I've just been lucky.

I handled spiders since I was seven years old because we like to make them fight on a stick, and the winner gets to keep the dead spider as food for the winning spider. I had a very bright red spider that was hungry all the time. Each time I take him out of the box and try to handle him, he would bite me. But it didn't do anything. Even the big black and yellow ones bit me too, and still no invenomation. I am not sure about the black widow and the brown recluse. So far, people affected are chilren, or people allergic to the venom. One guy on Discovery channel got bit and has some serious medical effects, but recovered after anti-venin was administered. Other orb weaver spiders here in the US does not have venom, or the ones I encountered.

yeah i think those are the ones alright. no spiders here pose a fatal threat to humans, widows and recluses are mainly in the US and some relative types in australia. i tried feeding one "hari" to my green and its still doing fine as usual

if u really want to feed the aro spiders, may i suggest u drown them first. When they're dead they wouldn't bite ;)

yep, thats what i did actually. stupidly tried suffocating it in a plastic bag but it took quite a while and spidey was still alive so i drowned the poor victim :D

i would think an aro could eat spiders.. after all your right, they eat centipede, cockroach ect..

I wouldnt feed them tho, you don't know where they came from, could be pesticide or bad chemicals on them.
