I got a pair of these for a friend who was supposed to pick them up today but now his phone is dead and I put them in a 5.5g quarantine but temps is only 66F.....has been in there for about 24 hours....how long will they be ok at that temp?

They will be okay for ages at that temp, but long term implications are what you are worried about. It's more the decreased system than freezing.

can u elaborate?

Any problems you have won't be explicitly temp related, they won't die or suffer obviously from the temp but as a reaction they will be more reserved. Imagine keeping koi in the winter but they still eat. They just eat less, there immune response is slowed and they will begin to fade away super slowly. Short term no problem most likelu. They are reclusive to begin with and feeding them may be difficult. I haven't kept them though, so take it with a grain of salt.

They'll be sluggish but as long as there's no pre-existing parasite issues with them they'll be fine. Just make sure to not over feed them.

It'll slow down all their systems to somewhere near a standstill.

They will be good. The water being too cold is way better than it being too hot
How much lower before it becomes fatal? My friend was supposed to pick them up today, but now I bet it'll be a WEEK before he comes up here again and it's supposed to be cool and rainy a lot this week, so might drop lower than 66F now

Can't medicate tropical fish in temperate water? They barely mouth these API bottom-feeder pellets. I've had a baby Molly in this same tank for over a month, temps were as low as 56F and he was ok.
Can you pop a small heater into there or put them into a heat-able tank?
I don't have another heater I can spare....the last one I have in the box still is for a 75g and will not fit in a 5.5g. I only did this cuz he said he was DEFINITELY picking them up today, lol well then, worked out great, huh?
why not buy one of these and just leave them in the tank the came out. this way you don't have to catch them again and they don't have to kept in the cold water.

How does breeder net produce heat?

it doesn't, but isn't your main tank heated?
