you hate summer..why because it is too hot??? thanks

Love the goldfinches. They swarm my dad's coneflowers like no other in the summer months.
It took forever for it to finally warm up! Now my carnivorous plants can finally start growing again.

i love those unique plants..do they die back in the winter or do you mean they just thrive in the summer when the flys are buzzing..:D

It is not just a american goldfinch, it is a greater american goldfinch. There is a lesser goldfinch finch which is less yellow and little green in tint.

wow i feel really fortunate that i saw two together and i have the pics.. thanks.backyard 008.JPGwould these be two males?

Those Goldfinches are rare up here in Canada. I probably see 2-3 a year. Very nice pics btw. :)

Typically your males will have color and females lack of color. The female needs to be drab to blend in while sitting on the nest and the males show the color to stand out for the females to pick. Those two and the previous one are all male Greater American Goldfinchs. You can call me your local bird expert hehe. Met my wife on a birding trip through Clark College in Vancouver, Wa. If you have any other IDs needed just PM me. What part of the US are you from?

They go dormant in winter and come back with a vengeance in the spring. They need the dormancy or they die. Mine should double in size this year. The pitcher plants can eat much more than just flies. Bumblebees don't stand a chance against the larger ones.

Those goldfinches are intense! The ones in VA are almost that bright, but the ones in your yard are luminous!
