Mine were shorter flights, all less than 12 hours. Two marble motoros and one henlei.

Thank you for the data.
The rays will be coming tomorrow (hopfully). I think I will use the dumping method - I have read somewhere an analogy: If you are barely dying in a freezing environment (analogy to the bad conditions in the shipment bag) - you would want to go strait to warm conditions rather than wait for a gradual conditions improvement.
It's probably not as simple, but made me thinking....

Not as simple. To fix the analogy: would you want to go straight to the warm conditions if, on the way, someone might rip out one of your lungs?

Good luck with them, however you do it.

Dilemma, indeed !

Why isn't it possible to use ammonia lock, and than use drip? That should eliminate the poisoning ammonia and make a gradual transtion to new water conditions?
Did anyone try that?

That's what I've been suggesting. It's what I do but haven't had 24 hour flights to deal with. If I did, it's still what I'd do.

If you have a GH (general hardness) test kit you can eliminate the guesswork and perhaps determine that squirt-and-dump will have less detrimental affect (*if* the hardness of the water the rays are in is similar to the hardness of the water in your tank).

I do not have GH test kit, but I know the hardness of water where I live is high and so is the PH (7+).

You'd probably expect the water they'll be coming in to be pretty soft, considering where it's coming from. Squirt-and-dump would scare me.

Ya'ap - I think I will try "squirt-and-drip".... The only thing I am not sure of is whether the amount of ammonia lock does not make difference (as in the squirt-and-dump), since the fish is going to be there for a while.

mine were in transit for 22 hours or so, went from a pH of about 7 to 8, went from a gh and kh of normal for germany to mine which is ridiculously high and a temp of about 78 to 84, they were two scobina pups and they are both doing great!

Ok..... Got them about 90 min ago. Here is an update.
I open the bag and immediately put some Ammonia lock. I started the dripping method that took place for 50 min. I made measurements of the parameters of water immediately and about every 5 min. The ammonia was at max measurements - i.e. at least 8+ ppm. The amazing thing is that though out the process the ammonia remained that high, so the levels were probably higher than 8ppm initially.
The Nitrite and Nitrate were OK. the PH was as low as I could measure 6 and less.

After 50 minutes I released the 3 flower rays into the aquarium and they are breathing hard. Though they are moving and burry themselves. Also I have noticed that the female is chewing and was playing with one of the snails. So, I made a try... I gave them live blood worms and I was amazed to see the femae actually eating ! ! !
Still early to declare success but signs are good.
