Squirt and dump acclimation on flower rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I guessed you'd have them before I woke up this am :D

With the low pH hopefully minimal damage has been done during the journey and hopefully they're gonna do good..

Pics once you feel they'll be comfortable ;)

Well, my day started at 05:30AM driving to meet the LFS who just drove in from the airport.... I am so glad I did that. The 2 rays are swiming and exploring their new environment. The female looks great with color coming back to her. The male is pale yet, but very active. The female is eating (surprisingly even quite a lot), the male is chewing the groud and I think started eating as well.

This is quite an achievement for me (actually, I think I'm among the firsts to have flowers in Israel ). The fact both are in that condition is like a miricle to me. The previous times I tried that I bought a single from the LFS after he made the acclimation and ended with dead rays. This time I took the acclimation on myself.

I am still hesitant with them and will not turn on the lights, but I will take some pics and post, although not in the best light conditions.

Congrats! Everything is looking up. Can't wait for the pics!

Here some of pics (not good light conditions yet - sorry for that , the rays are acclimating).

The acclimation process:

Look good even there, can see the patterning. What size are they?

And this is after a journy of about 2 days in a bath of ammonia which I couldn't even measure..... they are around 16-17cm (~6.5'') - I think still very juniors.

I must say I am delighted - I wanted them for years.

Forth day: The couple is doing great.
Until now they have eaten 200 gr. of live blood worms. I was able to get some black worms as well and they have eaten them. Very active at all times. Light is now on and they are not shy at all. Seems the acclimation was successful.

The Female and after Male:

Nice. None of those tetras (are they tetras?) have been snacks yet?
Might be good to post a new thread in the media lounge with the pics now..

You caught me... yes, that is part of the purpose - and yes, at least 3 today. I need to get better pics and will post a new thread in the media lounge - thank you for the advice on acclimation.
