stand build help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the 2x4 stand i built took a total of about 4 hours to do, mostly because my drill battery died on me. and since i have moved i making plans for a removable panel skin for it. you can not buy a stand that will last as long as this one will, for the same amount. and its a Fish tank with water why tempt fate with it not getting wet?

so this is what i got done today 5 hours later almost done think i did a good job for my first stand so let me know what you think and tomorrow going to finish putting the mdf on also need an idea for a canopy thanks for all the help and support :nutkick:

I'm really digging this stand design

QUOTE=john73738;4136231;]Stand for my 240 ply. Doing the math it will hold around 14000 pounds. 7x the weight of my tank.

Dont agree with that you cant overbuild. I think that you can overbuild. Not that it is a bad thing, but I want my tanks to be a piece of furniture. That is why I am getting rid of my cinder block stands.

For me the most important thing is to get a balance of form and function.

What ever you do just take your time, do research, and measure twice cut once.

Good luck, and look forward to seeing the finished poroduct[/QUOTE]

I think I posted this before, but this is the stand I now have for my 150. I built it the same way as the original stand but with 8 ground to top 2x6's, 8 surrounding 2x4's, and 6 braces made of 2x4's. All Pine, 1 layer of black paint, so it gets sucked into the wood and looks like black stain. I reused the doors and side slats from the old stand.

yea i know i took up the interior pace but its really not needed for because because all i am having in in there is my fluval 405 and a couple oxygen pumps and i know i kinda over built it but i know it wont go down because of lack of supports lol next is the canopy and i have no clue on how to do that any of advice would be wonderful lol and this part isnt going to be over built lol

Dude.....that thing is an accident waiting to happen. Needs more bracing. I suggest you add the bracing I've detailed below in blue immediately before it falls over.

funny my friend i did that because i wanna put red leds going up the slanted pieces because i am putting frosted plexi glass on the side of the door as they are used for supports so make fun but when its done i think its going to look cool
