ok iam goin to get a 4by2by2 which is about 120gallons in a couple of weeks after my holiday and i wanted to know what i need to make it.
-how heavy it will be,
-what wood or materials,
-how much wood or materials,
-tools needed
-how to tell if its strong enough,
-long lasting,
-easy to make,
-quite quick to build.
(so basicly everything on how to make a stand:) )
i will do this mostly by myself or if mates come round and when my dad isnt working.
i know its alot to ask for but can someone help me out thanks dave

You should go check out www.garf.org . It's a good website. Scrool down the side to DIY Pages and look at the plans for the stands. You just put in what size your tank is and they'll pretty much tell you the rest.

its pretty straight forward. you could do it with no power tool if you had to, what power tools do you have access to?

its a good web site but if you type in 30by24by48 it says under the title garf "
The cutlist below requires 2 x 4 lumber that has the actual dimensions of 1 1/2 x 3 1/2. " so does this mean get these cutting? if why not say insted of 2by4? also do you need skirts to keep the tank in place?

i would say a power drill and a table saw should do it. and 2x4s are only 3.5x1.5 when you buy them because the people who make them cheap out and make them smaller.

I know, cheap people. I don't know why they don't just make them 2 x 4.:screwy:

Dimensioned lumber is often measured two ways. Nominal and actual dimensions. Nominal refers to what they do before it is 'cut' down at the lumber mill. I am sure you know what actual dimensions are.

This is very common and it is not BS, i'm actually surprised that you don't know a 2x4 does not actually measure up to 2''x4''.

Maybe it is different in the U.K?
