Standing in Tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dude... Seriously...:screwy: Your 220 isn't that huge... It's not a friggin swimming pool. I'm 15 and can reach the back bottom of my 300 gallon acrylic tank while standing on a stepstool (useful tool even when you're tall.) I wouldn't risk standing in the bottom of my tank anyways, not worth it/more clumsy when setting up decor as well unless you have a tank that is wider than you are tall lol.

agreed, just not worth the risk. You want to be on the other side of having destroyed your tank because you didn't want to reach? Your going to have to be able to reach these parts of the tank to clean them when its up and running and full of water anyway. If your putting anything in too awkward to do so you might want to re-consider your layout.

190 pound fat ass? Are you one of the oompa-lumpas from Willey Wonkas Chocolate factory or something? You have to be under 5 foot tall to be a lard ass at 190 pounds!

I picture you as one of those early UFC fighters (Joe Son) at 5'2" 220LBS! I hope you did not get repeatitively punched in the doo-dads like he did by Kieth Hackney though:WHOA:

Well i was between 190-205 and im only 5'9". I was 171lbs in highschool in the best shape of my life. Now its 6 years out and i gained 30lbs but finally lost a good amount to be defined again and not pudgy.

If you can put a couple hundred pound of substrate in and then a hundred or so pounds of rock in there you getting inside shouldn't be a problem. Unless your really big!

This is true to a point. Yes theres a couple hundo lbs of substrate but yes it is spread out. On a side note Water weighs 8.35lbs per gallon. Now if your tank is 6' long and 2' deep thats 12sqft, now if u multiply 220gallon*8.35=1837lbs / 12sqft= 153lbs/sqft. Now thats obviously not 200lbs per foot but u have 2 of them! lol Little joke but still most of us have 2 feet so u will have 2 points of contact and will not be more than 150lbs of pressure per foot.

How much did that tank cost? Ask yourself if you would like to risk having to buy another one?

You wont break it! unless there s Huge Crack in it already....

Me and a friend climbed into my 300. It did'nt break. There might be a pic in the thread in my sig.

My point has been proven... i think...

I climb into my 450g all the time fixing one of my Fx5's intake tube from being knocked off by my Pacu all the time...It's right in the rear center of the tank and it's not easy reaching it when your tank is 3' wide and against a wall...I weigh about 160 lbs a lightweight but no problems here but my glass is 3/4 inch thick.

It should be OK as is, but if you're nervous about it just put a piece (the bigger the better) of 5/8" or better plywood in it to stand on to spread out the force, and stand on that.

I'm not saying that it will. But you are taking on the risk that it could. If you have the money to replace it then stand, jump, do what you like. That is a risk you are taking. Either way the tank will look great from my house.

It will not break even if he jumps... How much head room does one have above their tank anyways?:nilly:
